The brief
FANT (for a new tomorrow) is a Copenhagen organisation that uses sport to support development work in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Gambia. #FANTpåFarten is its fundraising campaign: people get active, and sponsors pay for every bit of it. The idea needed a real product that could tie money directly to measurable activity: DKK per kilometre for running and cycling, per rep for push-ups and burpees, per minute for planking, and something sensible for everything else.
What I built
I designed the product and directed the build, from architecture and user flows to the UI. People sign up and go straight into the app, create an activity with a sport, unit and target, add sponsors and log their progress. The dashboard shows what they’ve raised, their activities, sponsors and recent logs. Communities let people rally around one activity: joining adds it to your activities and makes the community owner your sponsor. There are separate leaderboards for individual activities and for communities, a public page anyone can share without an account, an admin panel, and full Danish and English throughout.
Designing for live use
The real work started once people used it. Leaderboards showed “User” instead of names, so the rule became name, then email, never a generic label. A push-up log could appear as burpees in a community view, so every screen now reads one source of truth for the activity type. Changing a community’s unit reset members’ totals to zero, so unit changes became configuration that never touches historical records. One-time sponsors needed a fixed amount that doesn’t multiply with distance. Share links went from UUIDs to readable names, and the public page leads with progress, like 33.5 km, rather than money.
The result
In two weeks, participants raised 64,201.71 DKK through the platform. When the campaign ended, I moved the app into a finished state rather than switching it off: every activity, community, sponsor and leaderboard is still there, and people can log in and look back at what they achieved, but nothing can be changed.
Review
Every screen was thought through. Our users stopped asking where things were.
